We sat down with one of our Semi-Skilled Landscapers, Anna, and asked her what she thought about her role and time at Urban Landscapes so far. Here is what she had to say!
Before starting with Urban I worked in the construction field as head of quality. I also had my own coffee van and worked the weekends as a barista.
I had been looking for a ‘job’ that I could turn into a career. I saw an opportunity become available at Urban Landscapes and decided to apply.
Before applying, I did some research on Urban and could see from social media how well they looked after their staff, their work was completed to such a high quality standard and the amount of success stories from ‘growing their own’ staff – pardon the pun!
This proved to me that Urban Landscapes seemed a great company to work for that offered a fantastic working atmosphere with plenty of room to grow & progress.
I have been given so many great opportunities to learn and grow. Just some of the training courses I have attended include; paving, site set out, deck frame’s, porcelain paving, digger & machine work and many more. All training has been thorough and very useful. Every day on site is also a learning day, I have always been given 1-1 learning experiences first hand on site with my team leaders that I am so grateful for.
I joined Urban Landscapes as a trainee landscaper and I have now been promoted to Semi-Skilled Landscaper, I am so proud of myself, having joined with no previous landscaping experience. I have worked hard every day to achieve this and continue to do so. Urban have supported me every step of the way!
Goals are set and I was told what was needed from me in order to progress. I feel very supported by my team and the office. My team leaders have always supported me and are great people to learn from.
As a female hard landscaper, it was a daunting feeling starting out with no experience – what if I don’t fit in because I’m a girl? How I was wrong! I have been welcomed into every team I have been apart of with open arms and support by everyone which has helped me to progress to where I am now. I have made friends for life at Urban and can’t thank the lads enough.
On site I learn at least 5 new things every day! I am always learning and trying to become better at what I do. I am lucky to have brilliant mentors on site who are great role models in landscaping. I hope to progress to ‘skilled’ over the next year and as my knowledge grows I am open to opportunities. I am also very interested in the design/estimating side of things and would love to be involved in any opportunities if they became available. Also, I have great knowledge in social media and marketing and would love to help Urban Landscapes grow using my skills.
I like how they treat their staff and how they promote from within, giving people the opportunity to grow and progress.
