On Friday 16th March the annual Association of Professional Landscapers Awards sponsored by Bradstone, took place at The Brewery in London, and it is with great joy that we can announce that Urban Landscape Design Ltd won the award for the best Commercial Garden category, sponsored by Boughton Loam, for our dementia seaside garden for The FED Care Home. We are so immensely honoured to receive this accolade and to have been recognised by our peers for this award, it was an extremely tough category and all the entries were of an exceptionally high standard.
The APL have been running these awards since 1995 to recognise and reward the high standard of landscaping construction carried out by its members. They look for projects that have shown technical excellence in both construction and horticulture, and have gone above and beyond in fulfilling the design criteria and the clients expectations.
The dementia garden, which was designed by Agathoclis Beckmann Landscape Architects, encompasses a seaside theme with a strong sensory feel, to help evoke happy memories of times gone by, stimulate the senses and provide a space to promote well-being for the residents of the care home. Gardens such as this one, have been proven to help calm and relax patients who suffer from dementia. This innovative and interactive space, with its beach huts, pier with Millboard decking, resin bound surfacing to represent sandy beaches, and sounds of the seaside, was highly received by the client, residents and their families as well as the local community, being described as life-enhancing feature of the car home.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with the project, from our suppliers to our hardworking team, and everyone in between. We would also like to thank the APL for their wonderful hospitality on Friday, and their continued work and dedication on promoting the landscaping industry.
